Frequently asked questions

What we get asked the most.

What distinguishes Cafore Abogados from other law firms in Bogotá?+

That we are a boutique firm: we take on few cases so we can give each one the attention of a partner, instead of the assembly-line treatment of a mass-market firm. We bring together specialists in criminal, corporate, civil and family law, with continuous judicial monitoring so that no procedural deadline is missed.

Why choose a boutique firm instead of a mass-market one?+

Because your case is led by a partner with the time to go deep, not by a caseload that dilutes attention. In high-stakes matters —criminal, corporate or asset-related— judgment and dedication matter more than the size of the firm.

What is Cafore's approach to resolving cases?+

We seek the most efficient path for you: if conciliation resolves it, we conciliate; if we must litigate, we litigate with rigorous preparation. Each case is handled with strategy, constant communication and an interdisciplinary team according to what it demands.

How does Cafore handle high-profile cases?+

With discretion and strategy. We combine experience in criminal and corporate law and prepare each procedural stage with the confidentiality these cases demand.

How does Cafore guarantee the confidentiality of information?+

Your information is handled under professional privilege and a confidentiality agreement from the very first meeting, with internal access controls on each case.

Who makes up the team at Cafore Abogados?+

Lawyers specialized in criminal, labor, civil, corporate and family law, trained at the best universities in Colombia and Europe —Externado, Salamanca and the Basque Country—, and led by the founding partners.

How is the lawyer who will handle my case selected?+

We assign your case to the specialist in the relevant area —criminal, labor, civil or family—, always under the direction of a partner who is accountable for the strategy.

How much does a criminal defense lawyer cost in Bogotá?+

It depends on the complexity of the case. At Cafore, the initial consultation in criminal law costs COP 400,000 and includes an assessment of your situation; the fees for the proceedings are agreed on with a fixed quote at the outset, with no surprises.

What is the cost of the initial consultation and what does it include?+

COP 400,000 in criminal and corporate law; COP 350,000 in family, civil and labor law. In it, a lawyer assesses your case, explains the scenarios and the strategy, and you receive a written opinion with the recommended course of action within 3 to 7 business days.

How are fees determined?+

Based on the complexity, the estimated time, the amount at stake, and the specialization your case requires. We provide a fixed quote at the outset, in writing and with no surprise invoices.

What does Cafore's representation include?+

Advice and representation in every phase of the matter —negotiation, conciliation and, if it comes to that, the administrative or judicial proceeding—, not just the hearing or the specific filing.

What forms of payment do you accept?+

Cash, bank transfer, PSE and credit card, with flexible payment plans for recurring clients. For clients abroad we have payment methods in the United Kingdom, the European Union, the United States and Hong Kong.

Which regions of Colombia does Cafore serve?+

Headquartered in Bogotá D.C., with service in Medellín, Cali, Bucaramanga, Barranquilla and throughout the country, in person or remotely.

Do you handle cases for foreigners or for Colombians living abroad?+

Yes. We represent foreigners with interests in Colombia and Colombians residing outside the country in personal, family or business matters.

What is a cassation appeal and when does it apply?+

It is an extraordinary appeal before the Supreme Court of Justice to correct errors of law in second-instance judgments. It applies in specific cases and demands rigorous legal technique; it is one of our practice areas.

What is the divorce process in Colombia like?+

Divorce by mutual agreement is processed before a notary and is swift; a contested divorce is handled before a family judge. For mutual-agreement divorce online we offer DivorciApp, and disputed cases are handled by the Cafore team.

What is the difference between Cafore and DivorciApp?+

DivorciApp is our digital product for divorces by mutual agreement—fast and online. Cafore Abogados is the full-service firm for complex cases across twelve areas of law.
